Your First Airstream Rental: What to Expect From Booking to Return

Most of our renters have never towed a trailer or stayed in an Airstream before, and that is fine. Here is exactly what happens, step by step, from the day you book to the day you hand back the keys at our Lathrop lot.

1. Pick the trailer and your dates

Choose a trailer on our rentals page and check that it is open for your dates. Our fleet runs from 16 to 30 feet and sleeps four to eight. If you are torn between sizes, our size guide walks through every floor plan, or call and ask for Jose.

2. Hold it with a deposit

A deposit of 50% or $500 holds the trailer in your name and is applied to your rental. The balance is due 14 days before departure, and we accept all major credit cards. Every rental includes the Support and Protection package, priced at 25% of the base rental, which covers rental insurance through MBA Insurance plus 24/7 roadside assistance and technical support.

If plans change, you get a full refund when you cancel within 24 hours of booking. After that, it depends on how far out you are: more than 60 days out you forfeit a $100 administrative fee, between 14 and 60 days out you forfeit the 50% deposit, and inside 14 days you forfeit the full reservation. A Free Cancellation waiver at checkout lets you cancel any time for a full refund.

3. Get your tow vehicle checked

If you are towing with your own vehicle, stop by the lot one to two weeks before your trip and we will test your brake controller and 7-pin connector at no charge. No tow vehicle? You can rent one of our trucks or have us deliver the trailer.

4. Pack light

Bring your clothes, your food and yourself. Every trailer goes out with a stocked kitchen (dishes, utensils, pots and pans, baking trays, a coffee maker, a toaster and a wine opener), bedding for the main bed, kitchen and bath towels, cleaning basics, and the RV essentials: wheel chocks, a fresh water hose and pressure regulator, a sewer hose, leveling blocks and a 30-to-20 amp adapter. Sleeping bags are available for the other beds, and camping chairs are free if you ask at pickup. You can stock the fridge before you even arrive; here is how renters order groceries ahead.

5. Pickup and the walkthrough

Pickup is between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. We walk you through hitching, unhitching, setup and every system in the trailer before you leave, so you head out knowing how everything works. If you would like a refresher later, watch our hitching tutorial and backing-up tutorial.

6. On the road

If anything comes up, help is a phone call away, 24 hours a day. Most campgrounds need a reservation, so book your site early; here is how to book an RV site. If your campground has no hook-ups, read our post on dry camping in an Airstream before you go.

7. The return

Returns are between 1:00 PM and 2:45 PM. Park in our lot, drop the keys in the key drop, and you are done. If you add the Platinum Service Package at checkout, you hand the trailer back without cleaning it, filling propane or dumping the tanks.

Need a pickup or return outside those windows? Tell us ahead of time and we will try to work it into our schedule. An additional charge may apply.
